Volusia County just passed one of the largest school board budgets in the country (1.3B), while the teachers themselves do not even have a competitive rate compared to the national average. They did up the rate of pay for staff from $8hr to $15, but even with the 9 million dollars the county was given by HB 641 they have still not made enough cuts to sustain the needs of the staff without slapping the tax payers with a 16% increase in the amount of tax dollars approved for the School Board.
