I move to authorize the Communications Committee to acquire a premium Zoom account for the purpose of conducting LPF business meetings and virtual events
Discussion:
The LPF should be looking to modernize and upgrade our communications platforms, to allow for more robust and wider ranging capabilities when utilizing. A transition away from the Free Conference Call platform to Zoom would be beneficial for numerous reasons.
While Free Conference Call platform has worked for us in the past, a movement to Zoom would allow party members to utilize a platform that gives us a easier to use interface, a familiarity that many already have, allow the LPF to more easily host Executive Committee meetings via video call, and would give the party the option to host more virtual meetings and events for our general membership. This account would be property of the LPF and would be created under the Communications Committee's email.
Generally the cost of a premium Zoom account subscription costs $14.99/mo or a annual fee of $149.90/yr ($28.98 savings for the annual fee vs monthly). Vice Chairman Hlavka has volunteered to cover the costs of the account through a earmarked or in-kind donation for the 2022 term. Due to this, there would be no financial burden to the LPF this term and the financial impact would not affect the party until the 2023 term, at which time the incoming Executive Committee could determine if they would wish to continue and renew the Zoom subscription.
