Rules Committee - May 21, 2023
LPF Rules Committee met for our first regular meeting on April 26, 2023.
Attendance: Greg Peele (Chair), Philippe Cadorette (Vice-Chair), John Thompson (Secretary), Ed Appler (ex-officio)
Actions Taken
- Philippe Cadorette elected committee vice-chair
- John Thompson elected committee secretary
- Conducted initial planning to identify 2023-2024 committee priorities
- Timely reconciliation and publication of 2023 Constitution and Bylaws
- Full review and rewrite of Standing Rules discarding all unnecessary content
- Per Rules constitutional authority in Article VIII Section 2(C), conduct editorial cleanup of Constitution and Bylaws to submit for Executive Committee approval to avoid wasting ABM delegate time on typos and grammar
- Address all 2023 ABM motions committed to Rules
- Focus on simplifying and updating Bylaws for 2024 ABM
- Revisit Constitution Article IX on candidate support
- Created Rules Committee BaseCamp and set up initial accounts
- Created draft reconciliation of 2023 Constitution and Bylaws for Secretary Appler pending approval of 2023 ABM minutes by Executive Committee
- Initiated full review of Standing Rules to identify necessary sections
- Approved continuing regular meeting schedule of 4th Wednesday afternoons
Planned Activities
- Complete provisioning all Rules documents in BaseCamp
- Coordinate with secretary to publish reconciled 2023 Constitution and Bylaws
- Coordinate with LPF Affiliate Support to send affiliates information on the impact of Constitution and Bylaws changes to their affiliation requirements
- Review LP National membership sharing agreement to determine whether any statutory or bylaws issues exist that need to be addressed or would prevent doing this program
- Review draft LPF Communications IT Policy Manual to determine whether any statutory or bylaws issues exist in policies that need to be addressed
- Complete full review of Standing Rules and propose rewrite
- Respond to any new inquiries from EC, affiliates, and other committees
Schedule
- Regular Meetings will occur on fourth Wednesday at 6:30 pm on Discord
- Committee will operate continuously on Discord in between meetings
- Special meetings and workshops will be scheduled as necessary
