JFC motion
« on: October 13, 2024, 06:56:20 PM »
If you have any questions prior to the meeting about this motion, background on how we got here and my efforts as part of the fundraising committee please do not hesitate to ask now. Otherwise, I also request that we have discussion on this motion in an executive session for those who would prefer we discuss this together during the meeting.

Please add this motion to the upcoming October 20, 2024 meeting agenda. Thank you.

Title:

Authorize the LPF to enter into the Kennedy Victory Fund 2024 JFC (with Executive Session discussion)

Mover:

Hector Roos, Region 14 Representative

Motion:

I move for the Libertarian Party of Florida Executive Committee to authorize the Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) to enter into the Kennedy Victory Fund 2024 Joint Fundraising Committee (JFC) with an effective date of August 6, 2024. Additionally, authorizes the disbursement of $5,000 to the Oliver ter Maat campaign immediately upon receiving funds from the JFC.

Discussion:

The initial authorization under the executive action by Chair Hlavka was rescinded but not before the LPF's name was used to raise money by the JFC. I believe the JFC owes the LPF the funds raised in its name. This first disbursement of funds was $26,000 that I have confirmed asking the chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado which also joined at the same time as LPF under the chair's previous direction.

As per my duties as fundraising chair of the LPF, I have embarked on a long term fundraising project to identify donors donating to the Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. campaign for president, which is now suspended and not on the Florida ballot, who would consider donating to the LPF. I succeeded in developing such relationships and raised $30,000 to the Libertarian National Committee (LNC) as part of my efforts. I was promised that financial support for the LPF would be provided through this proposed JFC which is why I am bringing this matter forward.

Personally, I have been a long time supporter of Mike ter Maat which includes his 2021 run for US House in South Florida and his campaign for the LP presidential nomination. I believe we have a duty to support our nominee and down ballot candidates where possible. I believe these funds would be useful for this purpose. For this reason, I would like the LPF to demonstrate its commitment with a $5,000 contribution to the Oliver-ter Maat campaign from the JFC funds upon receipt.

Nine state-level LP affiliates including the Libertarian Party of Georgia where Chase Oliver is from are signed onto the JFC as well as the Libertarian Mutual Aid PAC run by Pat Ford which is providing hurricane disaster relief in North Carolina and Florida. Participating committees earn a commission from their participation. The structure of the JFC provides for the LNC to be in charge of JFC funds and disbursement in their name. The LNC recently reported that they also received a commission from the JFC in the amount of $139,000 to date.

Respectfully, any further questions regarding this motion should be discussed in an Executive Session.
