At-Large 3 Monthly Report 09/17/22
General Notes:
This report covers the period between August 22nd and September 17th, 2022.
Notes for Audit: Audit met on 9/8 to review the current budget projections and spending rate for in 2022. A meeting is scheduled for 9/22 to review the current efficacy of Mr. Welti’s contract.
Notes for Platform: Still need a new committee member. The email address has not been transferred to Mr. Thompson as the new chair.
St. Lucie County update: Met on 9/6. William Van Helmond from Suffolk County New York has relocated to Port St. Lucie, and has taken a vacancy on the executive committee. As a retiree with previous experience as a County Chair, Mr. Van Helmond will make an excellent addition to the local affiliate.
General notes: Some check-in calls we made with affiliates and activists. I addended the officer call on August 28th, the general membership call on the 4th and chairs call on the 11th. I had dinner with the EC of Brevard County Affiliate (without Mr. Fleming) on 9/15. Nathan Slusher, Mari Peele, Greg Peele and I spoke at length about the current happenings in Brevard County. The next morning I had breakfast with Brian Fleming, we discussed Brevard County, Region 9, Convention Committee, and other items. The LPF still has 15 seats to the Brevard Golden Gala that were part of our sponsorship package. I am requesting that these tickets be provided to the Libertarian Candidates as a thank you for their efforts this year. We also need to be sure that all of our tickets are used for this excellent event.
Summary of comments from Libertarian Party of Brevard County (LP-Brevard):
LP-Brevard has secured another Gold Sponsor for the Gala. This is a direct result of the mailers sent to Brevard libertarians with the Gold Sponsorship funding that the LPF Provided. The sponsor is a crypto entrepreneur who is using blockchain as the backbone for a messaging service.
LP-Brevard will be purchasing a billboard to advertise the Gala. Currently the Gala is the #2 google search result for “Brevard Gala”. If the Gala sells out the hall, the zoo will open half of the park to the guests.
In July the Unity Party of Florida was dissolved. Membership committee should reach out to those who were listed in the Unity Party to see if they would rather be Libertarian than NPA.
LP-Brevard is pleased with the state’s promoting the events in Brevard and sharing the LP-Brevard Social media.
LP-Brevard has expressed frustration at CRM limitations imposed by National restricting the ability to generate lists for their campaigns and for local candidates.
LP-Brevard would like help in identifying 2 Candidates for US House FLA District 8. This is the US Representative that covers Brevard and Indian River County. LP-Brevard would greatly benefit from a primary for this seat. LPF has to make this effort as it is a federal matter and requires FEC interaction.
Shawn Allred Middleton is running for City Council Seat 2 in Melbourne in a two-way race. He needs all the support he can get from the community at large.
Please increase the internal communication, particularly to candidates as a way to show appreciation. Perhaps gifts or a pin (similar to the 100@25 pin), awarded at the ABM would be a good start. There is also a high importance on reaching out to the candidates in the hours and days immediately after the election to show that they are noticed and valued by the party.
