May 2025 DAL2 Report

1. This Report is intended for the meeting currently scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025.

2. After their due consideration, my proposed "Libertarianism 101" is NOT included in Florida Gulf Coast University's catalogue for their Summer/Fall "Academy" (their adult-ed program). I proposed two ninety-minute sessions, onsite in Fort Myers (and perhaps also online), examining in depth the major provisions of our national and State platforms. Maybe next time. See: https://www.fgcu.edu/academy/.

4. Identifying myself as one of our DALs, I continue my postings* to articles in "Florida Politics" (FP), which I understand to have a wide readership in Tallahassee and state-wide. The Wikipedia article on the FP site is remarkably less-than-laudatory, so alternative site suggestions are welcome. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Politics.

5. My letter to the editors of the Fort Myers News-Press and the Cape Coral Breeze was published. It dealt with the newly enacted legal restrictions on petitioning for Florida Constitutional amendments (HB 1205). It is also in the "News" section of our LPF website. (Thanks again, Lisa). See: https://www.capecoralbreeze.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor-guest-opinions/2025/05/09/restricting-the-right-to-amend-floridas-constitution/ . Also published at: https://www.pineisland-eagle.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/2025/05/restricting-the-right-to-amend-floridas-constitution/ . See the LPF's expanded version: https://www.lpf.org/hb_1205_power_grab

6. I attend meetings of the Lee County affilate.

7. I will not be able to attend the annual LPF Convention, because of a major prior commitment that will materially interfere with my ability to do so. I have asked to continue as a DAL but understand that the Party's convenience must rule.

8. I have asked to be removed from the LPF EC Membership Committee, as my interests lie elsewhere. Also, it is an important committee in the life of this organization and requires members who can participate fully in their work. If you are available and interested, please faites le necessaire.

9. On May 18, 1989 (26 years ago today), I had my last drink. It was a Tanqueray Martini (no olives, thank you very much). I was at the Exeter Inn (NH) with the mother of my four children. I entered a rehab at a Catholic hospital the next morning, as scheduled. I have not had a drink since, not even Communion wine. I remember putting the glass back on the table -- still half full !! -- thinking to myself at the time: "A drink is a terrible thing to waste". Live Free or Die, indeed.

9. A word to the wise: https://benbachrach.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/fromLarryGillis2025-04-11.png
