Title: Motion to expend $500 in support of Krystina Baxter representing the LPF at the 2022 FPEA Florida Homeschool Convention
Mover: Hector Roos
Motion: I move to approve an expenditure of $500 to support Krystina Baxter representing the LPF at the 2022 FPEA Florida Homeschool Convention taking place the 2022 FPEA Florida Homeschool Convention is taking place May 26-28, 2022 in Orlando, FL organized by the Florida Parent-Educators Association.
Discussion:
Homeschooling has become a vital and quickly growing mode of education for families during the Age of COVID. The de-schooling movement hinges upon the success of homeschooling families. Unfortunately, Florida is still one of the most hostile to families who choose to participate in homeschooling their children. Homeschooling is supported by the LPF platform and the growing movement is an opportunity for the LPF to participate in.
Krystina Baxter is a homeschooling parent or “home educator” with significant involvement in this interest group. She will act as an “brand ambassador” and network with vendors, event organizers and persons of importance at the conference. She will continue to network with homeschool families and support organizations. She will also write articles on behalf of the LPF on our website and in other publications on the topic of homeschooling.
The funds will offset her expenses of $750. She will pay out of pocket expenses of $250 to attend. Breakdown of Expenses
Room cost- $348.75
Registration cost $170 onsite registration
Gas, food, and other miscellaneous costs $200+
Estimated net cost of attending $750.
According to their publish mission statement: “The Florida Parent-Educators Association exists solely to serve homeschooling families in Florida. It executes that mission through support for the legal right to homeschool, local school board education and interaction, support group networking, a state convention, local conferences and events, informative communications, and individual encouragement, all in accordance with Judeo-Christian principles.”
From the Conference Q&A: Is this convention faith-based or secular?
The FPEA is an inclusive organization, yet our workshops and exhibitors reflect the makeup of our membership. We strive to identify all workshops containing faith based information so you can choose the workshops that best serve you and your homeschool family. Exhibitors are asked if their products are faith-based on their application to exhibit. 53.8% responded yes, and 46.2% responded no.
